Mike Cirella Photography was founded by a former Polaroid Photographic Engineer and optics industry veteran. Mike managed the optics & radiometry laboratories and photographic studios during the SX-70 years and also worked with Ansel Adams and Professional Photographers and Cinematographers at the Rockport Maine workshop; learning the importance of managing light to enhance the creative face of photography. He is now combining technical and artistic abilities to digital photography, focusing on seascape, beach flora & fauna, and macro subjects. Mike is a juried-artist-member of the Cape Cod Art Association and member of the Professional Photographers of America.

Artist's Statement
Photography provides a powerful venue to communicate. Whether it is a landscape scene, close-up of a flower or unusual shape or group of colors, a good photograph should tell a story. A great photograph goes further…bringing the observer into the moment of image capture, creating emotion, demanding a reaction. The composition and lighting provide a pathway for the viewer's eye. The objects in the image grab hold of you, keep your interest, as the story unfolds in your mind. My goal is to make photographs that involve the viewer at an emotional level. My feelings about photography can be expressed in a verse I wrote after contemplating what creative photography is about for me.

Without Light
Without light, there are no shadows.
Without light, you cannot see the natural beauty that surrounds us.
Without light, the fine texture of a flower cannot be revealed.
Without light, the vastness of a mountain range cannot be seen.
Without light, the great expanse of the ocean cannot be fully appreciated.
Without light, our lives would not be so enriched.
Without light, there would be no photography.
Photography allows us to use the power of light.
Photography reveals what is hidden in the shadows.
Photography speaks thousands of words with a single image.
Photography invokes emotional response.
Photography invites you to think about images and the story they tell.
Master the light, create images that reach your soul; that is the photographer's goal.
